Balancing the grid with software that reacts in seconds

eneco

About Eneco

Eneco is one of the largest Dutch energy suppliers, serving over two million customers. The company plays a key role in the energy transition, investing heavily in renewables and smart grid solutions.

To support grid stability, Eneco developed the first Virtual Power Plant (VPP) of its scale in the Netherlands. The complexity of managing multiple energy assets in real time required advanced software orchestration.

The challenge

Utilus was selected for its deep understanding of energy systems and its ability to deliver software that performs under pressure. Our structured and scalable approach stood out.

Why Utilus?

We supported Eneco in building software to control and optimise its VPP assets—solar, wind, batteries and more. These systems respond within seconds to changing supply and demand, contributing to grid balance.

The work

Eneco now has a robust, centralised control system for distributed energy assets. The solution strengthens operational flexibility and supports a cleaner, more resilient energy system.
